Life expectancy is rising by three years a decade - and experts warn that could push state retirement age up to 70 by 2050 - http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/pensions/article-3218502/Rising-life-expectancy-push-state-retirement-age-70-2050.html

In 1881 Otto von Bismarck, the conservative minister president of Prussia, presented a radical idea to the Reichstag: government-run financial support for older members of society. In other words, retirement.

Nearly one in eight of the world's workers believe they will never be able to afford to retire fully while millions of people are not financially prepared for life after work, according to international research by HSBC.
HSBC's study confirmed such concerns, with two-fifths of retired people surveyed in the U.K. reporting that they had either made no financial plans or were inadequately prepared for a comfortable retirement _ with 35 percent of them only realizing they were under prepared after they had retired.
