Section 1. The brief
What was the brief?
What was the brief?
What was your chosen product and how did you decide, as a
group, to choose it?
The chosen product was Vo5 hair gel, we decided in our group
based on the synopsis of our adverts and which one sounded the most interesting
to rebrand. We also based our decision on the new target audience the product
would be rebranded to.
Who is the current target audience for the product and who
did you decide to appeal to? Why?
The current target audience is 15 to 30 year old males who
are working to middle class. The target audience I rebranded Vo5 to be 15 to 30
year old females who are also working to middle class. I thought this would
appeal to this target audience because there many hair gels that are advertised
and aimed towards women so I thought that targeting Vo5 towards women will show
the hair gel can be used by men and women.
Section 2. The finished product & feedback
How did you collect the feedback (comments from others) on your finished advert from your target audience? Provide a summary of the main points.
We collected feedback from our peers as well as asking women
around our college what they thought of our advert and if it appealed to them,
we created questionnaires to allow us to collect the results of their feedback.
Appropriateness to audience: do you think you managed to get
the main message to your target audience you specified in pre-production. Would
the advert have an appropriate impact on them?
I think that we got the main message of our advert to the
target audience that Vo5 will give you confidence, I think the advert gives the
appropriate impact that women who use Vo5 will give them more confidence to
succeed.
Think about the technical and aesthetic qualities of your
advertisement. Analyse your use of: mise-en-scene; camera; editing and sound.
The mise-en-scene in the advert fits perfectly with the
narrative of the advert mainly due to the setting and lighting, I think that
the lighting and setting in the audition room made the narrative clear and was
suitable, I also think the use of the camera help give continuity to the advert
as well as making the advert more diverse in its camerawork making it more
appealing to the audience rather than normal head on close ups. The editing of
the advert helped establish what product was being advertised, especially at
the end with a still shot with the product coming up on screen. The sound in
the advert set the atmosphere and mood, the soundtrack in the advert reflects
how the main character feels.
Effectiveness of content: Do you think your finished advert
effectively sells the product to the specified audience through its
storyline/narrative?
I think the finished advert does sell the product through
its storyline and narrative because the main character shows the audience how
they feel when they use Vo5, that she becomes confident and finds success. This
sells to the specified audience because the main character is a female which is
what the target audience is and shows her struggles which other women may be
able to relate to.
What was the effectiveness of the persuasion techniques you
used to sell the product?
The hashtag ‘Get the style’ in the advert is an effective
persuasion technique to sell the product due to women wanting to become stylish
and enhance their hair by using the product.
Clarity of communication: what was the message you were
trying to send to the target audience? What were the main techniques you used
to send that message?
The message that we were trying to send to the target
audience was that if you use Vo5 then you will gain confidence and succeed in
the challenges ahead, the techniques used to send this message was a narrative
in the advert of a girl looking to overcome the obstacles of an audition as
well as the hashtag ‘Get the style’ that will women become confident when the
look stylish. I also wanted to show that Vo5 hair gel is not only for men but it
is also for women.
Overall, do you feel your advert is fit for purpose?
he
advert does look professional and it also complies with the BCAP code, for
example that the advert must not be discriminatory, encourage crime and it does
not distress or exploit the audience’s fears. There is nothing in the advert
that could harm anyone or cause any arguments.
Section 3. Personal reflection
How does the final advertisement compare with your original intentions?
How does the final advertisement compare with your original intentions?
The
final advert is similar to my original intentions through the storyboards and
the advert synopsis, the storyboards are similar to the finished advert as we
followed the storyboards without any problems. The advert synopsis a girl that
is auditioning as a singer and that she gets rejected the first time but she
auditions again after using Vo5 to style her hair, and she gains confidents and
succeeds in her audition; this is what the advert shows and this is still the narrative
of the advert.
Self-evaluation:
Reflect on how satisfied you are with your final advert. Would you do anything
differently if you were to undertake the task again? Finally, evaluate your own
involvement in the project.
I
am satisfied with the final advert as we were able to make a professional
advert within the time given with sufficient editing If I were to do this
project again I would look for actors who fit the role of the judges better as
it looks a little out of place. My own involvement in the project was sorting
out actors, the production schedule, parts of the storyboards, filming the
advert and finally editing some of the advert. I think I did all of these tasks
well, although with more time I would have been able to improve on parts of the
pre-production.
